Why are you seeing so many people buying recycled wood products?
Posted March 11, 2018 10:38:13In the past few years, many companies have been buying up and reselling wood products in the form of recycled wood, which has the potential to reduce the amount of wood used in the production process and help the environment.
But the demand for recycled wood has been on the rise and now more than 10 percent of all wood products sold in the United States is reclaimed, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
There are now nearly 100 million tons of wood in the U.S. according to U.N. data, and more than two-thirds of that wood comes from one-tenth of a percent of the total woodlands in the country.
There’s also a significant demand for wood products like plywood and pulpwood for industrial and commercial applications, which also contributes to the problem of climate change.
According to a report by the Institute for Sustainable Energy and Resources at Cornell University, the wood industry contributes about $12 billion to the U,S.
economy each year.
And it’s estimated that approximately one-third of the wood used for industrial purposes in the past 25 years has been recycled, according the report.
