UK: Artcraft and other UK wood products up for auction
UK: Artscraft, furniture and other household items will go on sale for the first time in more than a decade on auction after a bid of more than £1.5 million rose above £1 million to raise £1,000,000 for charity.
The auction is the latest attempt by UK auction houses to raise money to help fund local charities.
It comes after a wave of auctions in recent years saw auctions of wood products such as furniture and carpets raised more than half a million pounds.
In the first auction to be held since the death of the former Labour leader Ed Miliband in December 2020, the British Wood Collectors’ Association said the bid of £1-1.25 million was “the biggest ever for any British auction”.
It said: “The bid by the BWCPA and Artcraft to raise the largest amount for the charity was a tremendous result.”
It is very pleasing to see the auctioneers continue to work to support local charities and artisans.
“The BWCPS is pleased to announce the opening of its new London branch, where the vast majority of the furniture will be sold.”
Our members are pleased that the BWP is now able to operate as a full-fledged charity.
“A number of auction houses have raised money for local charities since the Brexit vote in June 2019, with a number of auctions featuring artworks from local artists.
